Sally Field

Sally Field is a two-time Academy Award-winner for her performances in Places in the Heart (also capturing a Golden Globe) and Norma Rae. For her title role in the latter, Field earned a mantle-full of acting honors, including the New York Film Critics prize, the National Board of Review Award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Award, the National Society of Film Critics honor, Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Globe.

She received the 2001 American Society Cinematographers' Board of Governors Award, which honors non-cinematographers who have "made significant and enduring contributions to advancing the art of filmmaking." A favorite with the Foreign Press group, Field also collected Golden Globe nominations for her work in many other films including Smokey and the Bandit, Absence of Malice, Kiss Me Goodbye, Steel Magnolias, and Forrest Gump.

In addition to her acting career in film and on Broadway, Field has also directed three projects. She costarred in the television series Brothers and Sister from 2006 to 2011, and for her role as “Nora Walker,” Field received a Screen Actors Guild Award and an Emmy Award, as well as two Golden Globe nominations.

Field began her career on television as the star of the ABC series Gidget. She went on to star in The Flying Nun and later won an Emmy for her role of a woman with multiple personalities in the landmark miniseries Sybil. She also earned two more Emmy nominations (one for her performance, the other as coproducer) for the miniseries A Woman of Independent Means, which marked her return to the small screen after a 20-year absence. In 2012, Field appeared as Aunt May in The Amazing Spiderman and as Mary Todd in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.

Along with devoting time to work and family, Field has lent her voice to many causes for peace and human rights, and has served on the board of directors of Vital Voices—a global women’s leadership organization—since 2002. She is also a mentor to young film directors and actors at the Sundance Institute.

In 2013, she received the Human Rights Campaign Ally for Equality Award for her support of gay and lesbian rights.
