Manuela Roosevelt

Manuela Roosevelt has been working in publishing since the early 90s in Zurich, London, San Francisco, and New York. She has overseen the publication of over 300 illustrated nonfiction titles in the subjects of science, history, spirituality, biography, current affairs, art history, and gift titles. She was responsible for illustration and publication of Stephen Hawking’s multi-million copy bestsellers, The Illustrated Brief History of Time and The Universe in a Nutshell (translated into 38 languages). Her work with Stephen Hawking helped to catapult him into a science celebrity author.

Manuela also produced The Illustrated World’s Religions by Huston Smith, which formed the basis for Bill Moyer’s PBS series, The World’s Religions. She has authored eight books, which have been published in several languages. In 2014, she joined Callaway Arts & Entertainment as editorial director and principal, a Manhattan-based media company that for more than 40 years has been at the forefront of art, culture, education, architecture, and entertainment.

Born in Bern and brought up in Lugano, Switzerland, Manuela obtained her bachelor of arts in social anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University. She speaks English, Italian, Spanish, Catalan, and French fluently. She has lived in six countries, and has traveled extensively, including crossing the Sahara Desert on camel with a Touareg tribe and studying the Dogon culture in Timbuktu, Mali. She is the chair of the Board of Trustees of the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Partnership, and serves on Omega's Board of Directors.
