Esther Armah

Esther Armah is a political commentator, playwright, award-winning international journalist, and author.

She has been in the media in Europe, Africa, and now the United States for almost 15 years.

In New York, she is a political commentator on "The Brain Trust," a weekly 30-minute panel on MSNBC. She is a Huffington Post blogger. She hosted WBAI's morning talk show Wake Up Call, WNYC’s The Next New York Conversation, GRITtv with Laura Flanders, and MNN’s Ancestor House with Nana Camille Yarbrough. Additionally, Armah has appeared as a political commentator on MSNBC’s Up With Chris Hayes, Melissa Harris Perry, and Up With Steve Kornacki. 

In London, Armah worked in radio and television with the world’s biggest broadcaster, the BBC, as an investigative reporter and documentary maker both in front of and behind the camera.

As an international journalist she has written for The Guardian newspaper in London and on Black British culture for Essence magazine in the US.

She also created Emotional Justice Unplugged, a multimedia, multi-platform global, digital arts and conversation series that is live in New York and in Chicago.  

Now in its 5th year, Emotional Justice Unplugged creates annual seasons engaging men, women, boys, and girls through theater, on air interviews, live events, and creative campaigns. On air interviews feature a mix of celebrities, scholars, activists, and artists. The campaigns mix traditional and social media in order to engage large audiences while still creating intimate public conversations. 

A sought-after public speaker, Armah brings emotional justice to multiple audiences, including Stanford University and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Annual Conference. She is a contributing writer to the award-winning news magazine AlterNet.com. She has written about issues of emotional justice as the playwright of Forgive Me?, Can I Be Me?, and Saviour?.
