Bruce Schearer

Bruce Schearer, a civic leader, former nonprofit executive, and expert in international development and philanthropy, has led efforts to build partnerships between government, civil society and private sector groups to address poverty, development, and environmental challenges in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Internationally, he helped found The Synergos Institute and grant-making community development foundations in Zimbabwe, Ecuador, and other developing countries. He has advised the United Nations Development Program, Millennium Promise, the Avina Foundation, the Alliance for a New Humanity, the Magis system of Jesuit educational organizations in Latin America, The Nature Conservancy, and other groups on strategy, programs, and institutional development.

Schearer is an honors graduate of Lafayette College who earned his doctorate degree in biochemistry from Columbia University, where he was also an International Fellow at the School of International and Public Affairs. In his home community, he cofounded the Larchmont Mamaroneck Local Summit, was a founding Board member of the Hispanic Resource Center, and has served as President of the Board of At Home on the Sound. 

In addition to serving on Omega's board of directors, Bruce Schearer is also a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
